    Your First Visit

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Your first physiotherapy session is slightly different to follow-up appointments. It is a dedicated assessment session designed to give your physiotherapist a complete picture of your condition before any treatment begins. You do not need a GP referral to book — simply get in touch and we will arrange your initial assessment directly.

    • A detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history and lifestyle
    • A full physical assessment including posture, movement and strength testing
    • Identification of the root cause of your pain or dysfunction
    • A clear explanation of your diagnosis in plain language
    • Agreement on a personalised treatment plan and realistic recovery goals
    • Your first hands-on treatment where appropriate within the same session

Initial assessment appointments are typically 60 minutes. Follow-up sessions are usually 45 minutes. The number of sessions required varies depending on your condition and goals — your physiotherapist will give you a clear indication at your first appointment.

    Home Programme

    Your Home Exercise Programme

Recovery does not stop when you leave the clinic. A personalised home exercise programme is a core part of your physiotherapy treatment at Mayfair Health Group. Your physiotherapist will design a programme of targeted exercises specifically for your condition, which you can carry out at home between sessions to accelerate your recovery and maintain the progress made in clinic.

    • Exercises tailored specifically to your injury, condition and fitness level
    • Clear instructions provided verbally and in written form so you can follow them confidently at home
    • Progressively updated at each session as your strength and function improve
    • Designed to fit around your daily routine with minimal equipment required

Consistency with your home programme is one of the biggest factors in how quickly you recover. Your physiotherapist will monitor your adherence and adjust the programme as needed.

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the area being treated. For lower limb conditions, shorts are ideal. For shoulder or upper back issues, a vest top is recommended.

Some techniques such as deep tissue massage or joint mobilisation may cause mild discomfort during the session, but should not be painful. Your physiotherapist will always work within your comfort level and explain what they are doing throughout.

Yes. Physiotherapy is highly effective for managing chronic conditions such as lower back pain, arthritis, and recurring sports injuries. A tailored programme can significantly reduce pain, improve function and prevent further deterioration.

Physiotherapists are regulated by the HCPC and have a broader clinical scope, including the ability to treat neurological and complex musculoskeletal conditions. Sports therapists specialise in sporting injuries and performance. Our in-house practitioner is a qualified physiotherapist.
